Voro: " It was fundamental to win, to get a just reward for our work"

The VCF coach reacted to a 2-1 win over Valladolid on Tuesday night

After Valencia CF’s victory over Real Valladolid, coach Voro Gónzalez talked to the media about the performance and Kang In’s late winner.

Young players coming through

“Both young players and ‘less young’ players are important. We always look out for the best interests of the team and there is nothing more to it than that. We look for the best performance and it doesn’t matter if the players are young or not. Everybody is part of the squad and is available to play.”

Takeaways from the win

“Beyond individual interpretations about players, the best thing for the team was that we needed a win, we started well, were disorganised in the second half with their goal, and our insistence gave us the reward that we haven’t had on other occasions. The most important thing for me is that; we got the three points which give us hope for achieving our goal in the table, and it boosts us mentally through the work the team did. The players are very tired, and with the substitutions we added something else to the team. I am happy for the players; we needed these three points to continue growing.”

The dip in the second half

“Two minutes into the second half we conceded a goal when we had controlled the game. We spoke about having to continue working to win the game, and the match opened up. There were chances at both ends and we finished one of ours. The situation for the team isn’t easy, and things haven’t worked out in previous games when we’ve had chances, but today it was fundamental to win to get a just reward for our work. It keeps us calm for facing the next game with a clear head and working to collect as many points as possible. If those points get us into Europe, then it’s the least we can do.”

Kang In

“We decided to bring Kang In on so that we had more options inside, so that he generated space and gave us a little bit of football. He’s a player who can break between the lines and give a pass to the wings or to the forwards. Every decision is made looking for what is best for the team at all times. It doesn’t matter if it is a young player, or if he has played a loto f minutes or not. We want everybody to participate. Today Jaume Domenech played, for example.”

The Valladolid goal

“It was from an isolated move -a cross that we didn’t defend well. To have more of a chance of winning, we have to keep a clean sheet. That’s what we’re working on.”

The effect of the result

“We needed to see a reward in our results. It’s going to be good for us in the situation that we’re in. Not winning today would have made it difficult to compete successfully in the coming games. A win allows you to work with more confidence. On Sunday we will be focused on taking the three points.”
